SEL GUIDELINES FOR RE-OPENING

Over the past month a group of VTSCA members from across the state worked together as a task force focused on providing SEL Guidelines for Reentry. We are happy to share the work of the task force thus far with you today. Please see the “VTSCA SEL Guidelines for School Reopening”.

This document was composed as recommendations to our membership, the Vermont Agency of Education, Vermont Principals Association, Vermont Superintendents Association, and VT-NEA for the re-opening of Vermont schools due to COVID-19. It is a culmination of resources fromThe American School Counselor Association (ASCA), National Association of School Psychologist (NASP) , Collaborative for Academic and Social & Emotional Learning (CASEL) and Northeastern Family Institute (NFI).

We encourage you to review this document on your own and with your administrator(s). Please be sure to review the powerpoint which is linked in at the bottom of the document as it provides greater detail along with implementation ideas and will likely answer many questions you may have.

Lastly, CASEL released a new document last week called “Reunite, Renew, and Thrive: Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Roadmap for Reopening School.” This is a thorough resource from a broad range of stakeholders including ASCA. We have linked it in on the bottom of the “SEL Guidelines for School Reopening” document for you to reference.

The task force will continue to meet and plans to share recommendations on SEL Screeners and SEL Curriculum in the near future. In addition, VTSCA will be sending out information later this week about additional ways to get involved.

Take care, be well, and be sure to take time to enjoy the summer!
